To get help from United Utilities Trust Fund, you must receive your water or sewerage services from United Utilities Water. You can apply online here.
Help given by the Trust aims to give people a fresh start and a manageable budget for the future. Putting people back in control of their money.
People eligible for help are those who have a liability to pay water charges to United Utilities Water Ltd and who are unable to pay.
The Trust won’t be able to help with all financial problems but there are many organisations to turn to for help. Go to our Sorting out debt page.
Money is not given directly to applicants but as one off grants paid to priority creditors.
Not everyone who applies for help will receive a grant. In some cases people will be advised to obtain other help first – usually from an independent free money advice agency.
Grants are given solely at the discretion of the Trustees depending on the person’s circumstances. They are not available to claim or given as an entitlement for people in difficult circumstances.
Mostly, grants are given to individuals or families to help clear water debt or to help with water charges so that they can start to regain control of weekly outgoings.
Additional grants are available in the form of further assistance. They are made available where the Trustees can see that it will make a significant impact for the person.
For instance:
- To provide a manageable budget in the future by relieving the pressure of other important or urgent bills.
- To help relieve distress in crisis.
- To provide an essential household item where no other source is available.
